How Does Tesla Autopark Work?

Tesla remarks that their vehicles have the lowest overall probability of injury over “any vehicle ever tested” by the government. And from what they claim, autopilot and other safety features are reliable and safe. When people start engaging in risky behavior, some seem to think they do not need to pay attention to the road anymore. However, that is simply not true.

Although autopilot is a great hands-on approach to driving, Tesla cannot control what their drivers do. However, they aim to make their vehicles the safest cars on the road.

According to Tesla’s vehicle safety report, they stated that they could track billions of miles of real-world data, with one billion driven with Autopilot, to understand the different ways accidents can happen. Then, they use this data to develop better features and communicate to Tesla drivers how to mitigate or avoid accidents.

Augmented Safety Features

Tesla continues to advance their safety features, and so far, they have had success. In 2021, the Model S received the highest safety rating of five stars. The larger crumple zones that have been made possible in the vehicle have saved lives by absorbing impact energy during collisions.

Autopilot has reduced wrecks by 40% due to the Autosteer and adaptive cruise control feature. In addition, the brand announced that this system would continue to advance and have more sensors to make driving even safer.

Future Tesla ADAS Advancements

The lane departure avoidance feature will apply corrective steering to keep your car in the correct lane. If the system detects that the vehicle has started to drift, it will nudge the vehicle back into the lane. If you don’t like the nudge, it can also be configured as a warning chime or turned off.

Forward Collision Warning

The forward collision warning feature will warn you and your vehicle of possible collisions with slower or stationary vehicles. You can set this feature to alert you early, medium, or late, depending on how conservative you want to be. You also have the option to turn it off entirely.

Slide Collision Warning

The slide collision warning will warn you and your vehicle of possible collisions with obstacles alongside your car.

Blind Spot Monitoring

Blind-spot monitoring will warn you and your car of other vehicles or obstacles when changing lanes.

Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance

The emergency lane departure avoidance feature will steer your vehicle back into your lane if it detects that your car is moving away from its lane. This will happen if it sees a risk of collision (crowded lane or into oncoming traffic). Your vehicle will rapidly change direction to try to avoid the collision.

Is Tesla Autopilot Worth It?

Does Tesla Autopilot Have Any Limitations?

There are a few things that can impact Tesla Autopilot’s function and performance.

The next significant feature that should be coming out is Autosteer on City Streets; however, there is no firm date for it just yet.

The Tesla Autopilot Hardware 3.0 will be sufficient for Full Self-Driving when it is released. Customers that have both Self-Driving and Hardware 2.0 or 2.5 are still getting upgraded to Hardware 3.0.
