As the race becomes the first electric truck revs on, you may wonder why you would even need an electric vehicle.

Tesla Cybertruck or 2021 GMC Hummer EV?

Both electric trucks have desirable qualities consumers are looking for in an EV. With the wide range of features from Tesla’s Cybertruck and differentiating models of the GMC Hummer EV, which should you choose?

Cybertruck vs. GMC Hummer EV: Performance

The Cybertruck and GMC Hummer are the two top competitors in the electric truck race. How do they perform when compared to each other?

Tesla Cybertruck: Tesla has not released information about the Cybertrucks horsepower or torque capabilities. However, Motor Trends estimates it to be about 690 horsepower and 824 pound-feet of torque. Cybertruck can go 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

2021 GMC Hummer EV: General Motors released the 2021 Hummer EV has 830 horsepower and 11,500 feet of torque and reach 0-60 in 3.0 seconds, excellent strength and speed for an off-road friendly vehicle.

Battery and Range

Tesla Cybertruck: The Cybertruck begins at 250 miles of range from a single charge for the single motor model. If you choose to upgrade to the two motor upgrade, you get 300 miles, and the three motor upgrade offers a whopping 500 miles on a single charge. This electric uses a 250-kilowatt charger, so it takes about 45 minutes to get to an 80% charge. Tesla has its own supercharger network, so it’s relatively simple to find a spot to charge your vehicle no matter where you are. Tesla has 986 charging stations across the United States, in every state, along well-traveled routes and highways.

2021 GMC Hummer EV: This model offers up to 350 miles of range on a single charge. This model uses a 350-kilowatt fast charger, which means you can add another 100 miles of range with 10 minutes of charge. The only downside is these 350 kW chargers are difficult to find since most EV’s can’t handle that much power so quickly. They’re also tricky to install in your home since they take up so much energy from other sources.

You can comfortably fit five people while also having room for storage in the five-foot-long pick-up bed. The interior design is sleek, modern, and warm and offers a 13.4-inch touch screen.

When Will the Cybertruck and 2021 GMC Hummer EV be Available?

So when can you make the switch to an all-electric pick-up?

Why Get an Electric Truck?

In 2020, electric vehicles, or EVs, hit a global sales high. According to research, in 2020, there was a 39% increase in EV sales, with about 3.1 million units on the road. It is estimated this number will reach 20 million by 2028.

Driving EVs allows consumers to help the environment and also save money. Electric vehicles have carbon emissions up to 43% lower than gas-powered vehicles on the road.

Switching to an electric truck is a no-brainer. These EVs have all the same capabilities as gasoline-powered trucks but can also perform better, have more sleek and modern features, and maybe saving you money in the long run.

Electric vehicles don’t require the maintenance we’re used to with gasoline-powered vehicles. The internal machinery doesn’t have as many moving parts. You’ll be able to save by not having to pay for annual upkeep appointments like oil changes.

You’ll also save on gas. A study showed consumers who do their charging at home could save about $800 to $1,000 a year on fuel costs.

Final Thoughts

Electric trucks are the future. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) estimated 200,000 electric trucks would be on the roads by 2030.

No matter when these vehicles eventually hit the market, fans will surely follow. The switch to electric vehicles has been slow and steady but has already picked up speed in the last few years.
